History of Conguillío National Park
Created in 1950, Conguillío National Park protects one of Chile’s most iconic volcanic landscapes. Formed by ancient lava flows from the Llaima Volcano, the park showcases pristine Araucaria forests and glacial lakes. Its name comes from the Mapuche word “Ko-nqilliu,” meaning “pine water,” honoring the Araucaria tree. Today, Conguillío stands as a sanctuary for biodiversity and outdoor adventure in Chile’s Araucanía region.
